Hydrolock at 12" (archive)

Is anyone bothered that the 740i Hydrolocks at only 1'of water for total engine failure?? A friend lost their 1995 740i engine to hydrolock in 10" of water at 3 am in the morning. BMW started a warning in the owner's manual in 1998. BMW claims that the world weather has changed necessitating the warning.
