I have a 98 740I with 26K with the same problem. I thought I was crazy. Thanks for the info I'll have it checked and hopefully repaired.

It's absolutely bad strut mount. I had that problem too and ended up by new shocks and found that the problems weren't in the shocks, but the strut mount.
