What does that have to do with the battery, you might ask. We'll after a few days (and one fruitless trip to the dealer), the car became more and more reluctant to start. Finally it needed to be jumped, and it was unusually hard to jump.
Bottom line: The dealer replaced the battery and all the problems went away. Apparently, the newer cars are very sensitive to low voltage from a failing battery.
Get the dealer to replace the battery (don't try to do it yourself). If they refuse to do it under warranty, don't hesitate to push your complaint upstairs to BMW.
Good luck.
Our new year 2000 740il battery went dead after being left in the garage for 6 days. BMW's roadside service came and started it. They said they get lots of calls on this problem. The dealer confirmed that the car needs to be trickle charged if it's not going to be driver for THREE days!
Can this be true?
Guess we need a new car. Anybody had this problem and gotten their money back? Do all BMW's have this problem? Thoughts?
Please email replies. Thanks,
