- Back seat: Just pull the front up on the bench on both sides, it easily snaps loose. Pull both headrests up (use some force to snap loose) and away. Remove four bolts from lower edge of back rests (two in the middle, two at the outer edges). Use 10mm socket I think. Then pull backrests upwards. Careful not to scrape plastic panels on the outer edge. I have not removed the seatbelts
myself yet though. The center emergency set holder snaps loose if you pry carefully between metal and plastic with a thin tool and pulling upwards.
- Door panels: Begin by removing small plastic cover inside door opener cup with a small screwdriver. Remove exposed Phillips screw.
Now pry under the edge all around the door panel VERY CAREFULLY with a flat tool (preferably taped to avoid scratches on paint and panel, I use a taped 1-inch wide paint scraper) to snap loose about 10 clips + some snap locks on the top..
Juggle the door opener out of the panel inwards by rotating it. Pull the door panel some inches straight up to let free.
Remove electrical contacts carefully. The lower lamp contact is somewhat difficult.
To assemble: Important! Remove two center clips from door and transfer to corresponding mounting slots in the door panel. Replace any damaged clips before assembling in the opposite order. Pound each clip into place with your palm around the panel + two in the center.
- It is quite possible to do-it-yourself on the E38. Get the shop manual for about 25 dollars on microfiche + mm-tools of course.
