I own both an X5 (4.4i) and a RX300 (my wife's). The X5 gets 17.0 miles per gallon (exactly); the RX300 gets 20.0 (exactly).

Doing the math, if you average 12,000 miles per year, the X5 will cost you 12,000/17 X $1.60 per gallon = $1,130 per year; the RX300 is 12,000/20 X $1.40 per gallon = $840 per year. The difference is about $25 a month. The BMW is worth it (and a lot more).

Add to this that you are probably considering the smaller BMW engine, which should tighten up these numbers considerably.

Think again, man!
