the light at the shifter is programmed to illuminate for many minutes after the car is off...also, the two led's above the rear view mirror are a convenience illumination for inside the cabin....

hi - 740iL/2000 (just bought last mnth) -- door locks are not automatically locking after driving-off. is there a way to program this?

also, on the console, the letter 'P' for 'park'', stays 'lit' long after engine is off - i don't think it ever goes out -

also - there are two tiny red lites on the console where the garage-door opener selections are located - what are they for -

of course i know to read the owner's manual, but sometimes they aren't too clear - we think the car is awesome, powerful, handles like a dream - inotherwords, we love it - our first Bimmer - thanks again - also, if there is anything you thing we should know but haven't asked, would appreciate your input - have a great day!


Your client advisor should have done the car and key memory form. dealer can program car to lock after car exceeds 5mph. Contact me I will fax you this form as there are other options. The two lights near you garage door opener are there for "ambiance" and I think you'll agree are a nice touch. As for the gear indicator light I believe it is always lit, I do not think it is a powered light though (glow?) I hope you continue to enjoy your new BMW.
