Got a bad feeling about V8 sulphur problem.... (archive)

My girl friend is now driving my 740i ('95, 120k miles) in MA and have told me that the car is shivering excessively at the start-up sometimes. Is that a sign of the sulphur problem? And if so, I heard that, since the warranty is gone, I can somehow negotiate the cost with the dealer. Has somebody done it before?
