Hi Roy. Go to www.530i.org to find out about the BMW V8 engine problems. As to engine replacement check the "in service" date of the car (ask a dealer) not the manufacture date. The enginbe is warranted for 6 yrs or 100k from this date. As for mileage before problems there is no trend. My 94 8 series had the engine replaced at 33k and I've heard of engines replaced with less than this. I also have a 95 7 with over 40k with no problems. Some people had well over 100k with no problems. A lot depends on where you live. Problem seems to be most prevalent in the north east.
