Hey folks, Need your guidance and input on 95 740il 47K miles, can buy for $ 28,000. It DOES have the nikasil
BLock, no symptoms at this time. I have read via this board that the problems usually do not start until 80,000 miles or so. Any input on how many 94 95 7 and 5 series blocks had this problem ???
ALso looking at 3rd party service contract from Dimensions and Gen Motors. Need your valued input on both service contract providers and any gut feelings on the possibilty of the problem with the nikasil block showing up later down the road. I am 1st time BMW owner so I want to make it positive. ALl input apreciatedRoy
In my opinion the '95s are just not worth the hassle. I had one, beautiful car, got up around 90k and started have symptoms. The dealer really screwed around and claimed the block had not gotten bad enough to fail the tests. Instead of gambling on it I sold the car. I could just see the thing failing just out of warranty. I would really look for a '96. The 4.4L engine also has a good torque boost over the '95s, you can feel the difference on the low end. The problem with Nikasil is that it WILL fail eventually, it is a chemical reaction you can not stop.
