I would upgrade the rear differential as well, at least to the Sport version's 3.15.

I love that idea!! I've been playing with thoughts on V12/6 speed or supercharger/6 speed conversion, but would like to avoid the added weight of the V12 and the added complexity of a supercharger. The M5 engine would be a great conversion in my mind - but I'd definitely go for the 6 speed conversion to match. In fact, I've thought about doing that even without any engine conversion.

My 740i is a 95', and I'm concerned about the nikasil problem as well. It runs great, but the warranty is running out soon...then what...?? Let's stay in touch on e-mail for future reference and possible cooperation on a project like this.

Hello board, had a question to place for you all. Would the 2001 M5 engine fit in an E38 740I? I am debating the issue of going with a 95' 740I whose nikasil problem is no secret, and than replacing the whole engine bay with the 2001 M5 and engine accessories needed to function. Transmission would probably be upgraded to the E38 steptronic trans. Just looking for the boards opinion (and yes I am crazy)on my potential E38 M7.

Thanks
Justin
