I am a 1994 740iL owner with 47,000 miles on it with no hint yet of the engine sulfur damage problem. I am also beyond the BMW factory 100,000-mile/6-year extended warranty. Evidently I will eventually face this problem with my car and will need to spend approximately $8000 to fix the problem. I guess I don't agree with you in your various posts that this is the owner's problem, not the BMW factories problem. I was never informed when I bought the car that I will eventually face this very expensive problem. I don't know why an owner should be expected to pay for a known engine factory design fault especially since most owners have come to expect BMW engines to generally run trouble free for more than 200,000 miles. Since I happen to have not driven my 740iL for 80,000 or more miles to generally cause the the problem to exhibit itself before the 6-year time limit on the warranty, it is hard for me (and other affected owners) to stomach paying $8000 to repair this engine. Just my thoughts.
Would anyone care to respond if they in fact got BMW NA to pay for a short block replacement beyond the stated 100,000-mile/6-year warranty???
