Don't knock the X5. I have a new one (4.4), with 8500 miles on it, and I love it. It is my first BMW vehicle, and I am looking forward to more...like the new 750iL to come out in 2002. That is why I am monitoring this board. Any problems you mitht have with an X5 will be quickly corrected by your dealer and pale in comparison to the great performance and fun-to-drive-ness of the X5.
