740iL-dash display time/mileage-how to set to show (archive)

hello
2000 740iL
two buttons - on display - one on left, one on right:

pushed in milage goes to "0" - on other side (right),pushing in button, it says ''engine check'', then N.R. 1,2,3, etc.which eventually goes off - where it says:
"fasten seat belts" sign turns on - when it's over, the date/time, etc. used to display and stay on but now, nothing shows - how do we get it back ? thanks again
