I bought my 95' 740i with 58k for just under $25k. The car is a wonderful driving machine in every way, but seems to be somewhat haunted by electrical gremlins, although nothing too serious. I love my E38!!!!!

The most important part is to check the engine block to see if it has been replaced - check the archives for posts about the nikasil/alusil block problem. This is very important. An extended warranty covers the engine for 6 years/100,000 miles from in-service date, so check that with a dealer.

Also, check the pixels in the temp and dash displaus, as they tend to go bad and are expensive to fix. Of course, look at anything you'd check on any used car, keeping in mind that the Bimmer will be somewhat more expensive to fix than the average (lesser) car.

Hope that helps,
Big-T

I want opinions on how these cars are? How do they hold value? What is a black 95 w 50k worth in great shape? Any problems to watch out for?
