Anyway, I don't know if this transaction makes me a good BMW customer or not. My car currently has only 47,000 miles on it but I am worried about this potentially very expensive engine problem. I have not had my car leak down tested mostly because it runs fine with no idle roughness.
Did your 840Ci engine exhibit any sign of a problem leading you to have the leak down test done? Or did you have the test done only because the extended engine warranty was up? If you engine was seriously affected, did you notice a definite performance improvement after the replacement engine was installed?
I had the engine replaced by BMW in my 94 840Ci last May. The warranty expired on May 20 and I had the engine checked on May 19. Anyway I have heard some rumblings about a class action law suit if BMW does not stand behind these engines. The six year period just started to expire this year. I think a lot depends on how good a customer you are viewed to be. I also have a 95 740iL in which the six years are up in Oct 2001. I'll have it checked sometime before the warranty expires.
