No, my 840 was not experiencing any problems when I had the engine checked. I only did it because the warranty was expiring. It only had 33k at the time. I did not notice any performance difference difference with the new engine, but then I don't drive like I used too (I'm 63 now but in my younger days ...). If you own a BMW you are an owner in good standing with BMW. The dealer will do a leakdown test free of charge if you request it and the warranty is in force. Look at "www.530i.org" for more information and a list of dealers who are aware of the engine problem and willing to help. Also where you live makes a difference. The problem is most common in the northeast and fairly rare in the west. Depends on the amount of sulphur in the fuel (more used in the northeast). Anyway have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
