In the E38 the engine problem exists in the 95' only. The 97' has a 4.4 with alusil block - no problems at all. Enjoy a worry-free car :)

You guys appear to be quite familiar with 740 history. I recently made the transition from a 3 series to a '97 740IL. Is there a significant difference along the line of the current 7 series? Engine issues were limited to what years?
