Maintenance $ on 12 Cyl vs 8 Cyl Engines (archive)

I am considering purchase of a 740il or 750il. It appears that the only differernce is the engine. Are the any benefits or drawbacks going with the 750? Are the maintenance costs much higher with the 12 cylinder motor? I'm looking at a 1996 750il and a 1997 740il. Both are about the same price. 750 has 80,000 miles. Thanks
