I brought my 95 740i to dealer for small body work, dealer said he would repaint front fenders/hood which he said is very common, for about $700. Is this fair? Is it common to have this done to get rid of nicks, stone chips??

It is quite common to see cars with their hood re-painted b/c of nicks, stone chips, etc. Re-painting the hood does not affect the car's resale value at all.
