Hello!
I have the same problem right now. I went to the dealer and had them run a electrical diagnostic test and they found a faulty water valve (placed behind the driver's side cylinder head against the firewall). I will replace it soon. Hope it is the cause.
Regards, Soren

I have a '97 740il. Whether i set the temp to 90F or 60F it still gives me full heat. Setting it at 60F should not give me full heat. But when i press the a/c button to turn it on then i can control the temp to my desire. Is this the way the car works or is there something wrong. Current temp out here is around 30f. Thanks in advance.

Check the dial between the two vents directly above the stereo and make sure that it's set to cols (Blue) and not hot (red). hope this helps if it's not anything else major.
