Sorry I haven't checked the forum in a few days.
I ordered my cats from Bekker Import Corporation. I believe they were around $850 or so for the pair.
It may be phsychological but the car did seem to accelerate faster after the install.

Hey Deron, where did you order your cats form. and what was the cost? If it makes you feel better, I have the same startup noise on my 95 il

I know it's not the catalytic converters, it's a pulley or something up front, I have also had experience with the cats about 5 months ago 1,000 miles out of warranty. I replaced mine with after market free flow converters from DEC and they are doing fine.

It sounds like the catalystic convertors are breaking up.VERY common.
Avery 740 I have had had the same problem.

I have a 95 740il with 97,000 miles on it, whenever I start it with the engine cold I get a clanging sound that sounds like a bad pulley or the fly wheel, or maybe even the harmonic balancer. Has anyone had this problem on cold startups?

I have a 95 740il that makes that sound when starting up very cold. Have no idea what causes itbut would also like to hear from someone who knows.

I have a 2001 740IS and the same thing is happening, I was going to take to the dealer but since I read your posts I do not think they can do anything about it.
