Am looking into importing a Euro vehicle. Does anyone have information re shops which 'do' the federalization thing, either in Houston or Florida's east coast ? Any feedback regarding similar experiences greatly appreciated. My thanks in advance.

I was interested and found a WEB site with the DOT that spelled out who the bonded people were that they would allow to do the conversions. Between the DOT and the EPA, things get pretty difficult to comply.

The real back breaker was that fact that our fuel in the US is a high sulphor content fuel and the BMW engines must be localized (made for specific fuels). Bringing a grew market 7 over, for instance would probably get you an engine that failed a leak-down test in 50K miles.

If you are an alien, you may bring a car in with you, but you can not dispose (sell it) of it here unless you junk it or take it with you when you leave.
