Hi... You know something ? At one point in time I doubted that thing MYSELF ! But when I read it in BMW (the mag) I thought so much about this... I hope someone reads this post to correct me if i'm wrong... 'Coz in Road&Track mag Issue 37 of last year (2000) there's a page somewhere near the end that shows the detailed differences b/w all i's and iL's... So I got it stuck in y head...(this 0.9 secs)
However, I REALLY hope some1 here sees this... I, myself, would like to know for sure...
Thx for raising that up ! i appreciate it...
Hmmm.... Maybee the difference between the 740iL and the 740i sport is .9 seeconds due to the different gearing of the sport model. In recent road tests done by Motor Trend and Car and Driver (my favorite), the 0-60 time for the 740iL has ranged from 6.6 to 7.2 seconds. Unfortunately, I don't know of any magazine that has tested a normal 740i recently, so I can't campare the times. Motor Trend tested a 740i sport some time ago and they got a 0-60 time of 5.9 seconds! In the 2000 BMW 7-series catalougue that I picked up at the dealership, BMW claims that the 740i and 740iL will both go 0-60 in 6.9 seconds, with the 740i sport going 0-60 in 6.8.
