Stupid Decision ?! HELP: Opinions wanted. (archive)

my 740's rear apron (bumper) is the one that comes from the company i.e. No Openings for the exhausts...
Now i want to replace it with the one that DOES have openings so that I can fix the chromy exhausts at last... But I've been advised (in order to save on cash) thatI could take it to some garage to cut those openings manually and that a good&experienced person could do that easily...
SHOULD I or SHOULDN'T I do that ??? Is it better to just buy the brand new thing ? to me, it looks like a peanut-job...
