I purchased a 98 740il last October with 36k miles and the dealer performed the Inspection II maintenance, which included rear brakes and 2 new rear tires. My question is how often should I change the oil and rotate the tires or is the standard 3K miles good for bimmers also? Will I get a MSG from the console when the oil needs changing? In addition, is the local QuickLube or JiffyLube sites ok for these type of cars or should I stay with the stealer (as ED M put it). I guess I need to get my hands on a maintenance schedule book.

When you first turn on your car, there should be a series of green lights that will slowly decrease the more you drive. Once all of those green lights disappear you will have an orange light with the words - Oil Service. That's when you need to change your oil (at least according to BMW).
