I was quoted $450 at my independent mechanic (very reputable place, deals only with luxury vehicles). I think that's pretty steep as well. One service on my 740 costs as much as 3 years of maintenance on my 93' Corrado I had a few years ago. I'm definitely doing stuff like brakes, shocks, and the like myself.

So, it depends where you live-
I live in NorCal - my dealer charged me $575 for Inspection II...but guess what you get for that:

1) Unparelleled return service - I returned for a CPO repair two weeks later and found that they'd completed another Inspection II on the vehicle free of charge (I'll take it:-)

2) Immediate and unchallenged response to request for loaner.

3) Free wash (big deal;0)
4) Future purchasing power - negotiation's a bitch
