Just returned from LA and Detroit Auto Show previews and learned that the new 7 will debut in Frankfurt this coming September. Which means that it will debut in NA probably in Detroit (January) next year, on sale in early spring.
The design staff tells me that it will be longer and wider than current S-class and also expect a slightly longer wheelbase. Tires are upgraded to accomodate the larger body. Unfortunately, the design theme will move toward higher luxury (as opposed to the E38s sport-luxury feel).
Despite this, they (BMW design staff) thinks it should confidently hold its own compared to the recently launched LS430 and the awfully bland new Q45 which was shown in Detroit.
