It's right where it needs to be. Don't worry, that portion of the molding is just a dust cover. The winshield fits in a channel in the lower portion of the molding, and that is the part that is actualy sealed to the car.

740iL - 2000
when i look at the rubber molding on the windshield as it approaches the roof of the car (both sides) - a small portion of the rubber molding actually 'sits' onto the painted area of the car rather than 'fitting' snuggly inbetween the glass and the painted area of the car - it looks as if it handn't been 'finished' by 'slicing-off' the excess molding but rather just letting it 'lay' onto the car. could someone who has this model tell me if theirs is similar? thanks so much!! we had the shild replaced and i am wondering if the technician neglected to do this - i was told by the auto glass person that the molding comes 'retro-fitted by BMW. they will do whatever i wish - they're easy to work with - i don't know whether to deal diretly with the glass people or notify the dealership first - thanks
