The color insert on the hood emblem of my '97 740i "disappeared." All that is left is the chrome base with the outline of the design and BMW letters. Have no idea what might of caused it -- there one day; gone the next.

No, I had it happen to me on my 740iL a few months ago. Go down to your local dealer and buy a whole new one for about $15US. The whole thing is plastic.
