At 122K I'd bet you dinner your upper thrust arm bushings are shot. Those bushing take more wear than any other components because they position the wheel front to rear. The rubber is probably all cracked. You have to have the car up enough to remove the bolt holding the thrust arm in place and remove the green clip thing. With a torch you can see the condition of the rubber. I'd replace the entire thrust arm as well if I prove to be right. The ball joint is integral to the thrust arm and cannot be replaced alone. See if you can locate a Hunter 9700 balance machine and have the wheels respun. Too much sucess documented with that machine. www.hunter.com

Engine motor mounts should be looked at as well as transmission for the side to side play of the motor. It could also be a cylinder not firing quite correctly. Did you get the secondary ignition system renewed, (rotor, cap, plugs, wires) while in for service?

Sorry can't help you with the PDC.

Too bad about CF. See their ads in BMW Car rag. You blokes have the best rags, my wife loves your version of Cosmopolitan, I go for BMW Car and Performance BMW myself.

On another note is Munich Legends close by? I know they sell cars but maybe they service them as well?

Dear Bimsters,

I just had an inspection 2 done on my 96 740 (122 K), yesterday , or at least(apparently)the equivalent service done by cooksferry engineering in the uk.

They seem to have done the service ok , however I asked them to check various things and unfortunately they did not ,such as the PDC was not working , it just omits a single tone for a second or two (a malfunction according to the handbook)when activated , it does activate when put in reverse though , just does not work , any one have any experience of this problem ? , cooksferry said that their equipment could not "talk" to the PDC ?

I also have a shimmy through the steering wheel at around 48 miles an hour , I have just had fitted four p6000 tyres , tracking and balanced etc ... , I have seen posts here before about this issue stating bushes as the problem , does anyone know if there are particular bushes that need replacing ? , they said they checked the bushes and all was ok ,but i am sceptical and they said they balanced the wheels again , this time ON the car,the shimmy is still there though.

The car also has a slightly lumpy idle , you can feel the engine going from side to side when at idle , it is not a big problem and the engine is sweet apart from that , I was hoping that this would be fixed by the service , alas not !
they did not even seem to have adressed the issue even though i asked them to look at it.

In general I was not that impressed with them ,maybe I just caught them on a bad day , hope they can afford bad days ! they seem to have done the basic service ok , but have not done a single other thing I asked them to , to add to that I had the car dropped off at 09:30 in the morning , eventually i was told to come down at 17:15 , got down there at 17:30 and waited until 18:15 as the car was not finished , to add to that the owner did not seem to mind swearing profusely when he was on the phone to one of his friends whilst we were waiting in the reception area , not a problem for me , but I had my girlfriend and six year old daughter with us , she was not impressed and it just added to the experience.

Oh if only we had the "people" service standards in the uk that you guys in the usa have !

Sorry for the length of the mail , but maybe someone can help with my problems ?

Thanx
