Thats very common, if fact most dealers will repaint the the hood and sometimes the fenders. You'll also notice chips in the front headlight glass sheilds. Of course, you can by the glass for the headlights with buying the entire assembly...I have yet to figure out why other than being a rip-off.

I just finished waxing (Klasse wax) my anthracite 2001 540. I have about 3,000 miles on it and live in the SF Bay Area.
I cannot believe the number of chips in the paint on the front bumper and hood. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I have not had the car in terrible conditions; I commute on the freeway about 40 miles (total) each day.
I can't imagine what it will look like in 10,000 miles.

Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.
