Is this correct?

According to the owners manual for my '95 E38 750iL,we should be using 15W-40,15W-50,or 20W-50 oil in my M73 motor for the mild SoCal climate.

This seems wrong somehow because of the modern trend to lighter weight oils such as 10W-30,or even thinner 0W-20.

What is the official factory recommendation, and what is everyone using?
