*winter nose problem (archive)

i hope someone can help with the following.(94 740il)
after the last time i used the (*) winter mode switch the car now starts up everytime with the (*) winter mode symbol showing on the dash. if i push forward to economy mode the
* goes out but the E symbol does not go on. if i them shift down through reverse nutral drive and in to 4
(which is the sports mode ) the winter mode symbol
comes on again.
has anyone had this problem and if so what is the remedy.
i have a feeling its a faulty switch, can the switch
just be dissconnected? winter mode is not actually needed.
any help would be greatly appreciated
