Thanx for the info!!
I did run CarFax and have contacted last dealer that did work. Car seems to come up clean. Thanx for the lead on the manuals and service books.

Mark,
I did this exact thing in Sept 2000. I was able to get the car serviced at a local dealr under warranty without any problem at all. I have had several small cosmetic things replaced and they repaired an oil leak on the engine's rear seal.
In addition, by calling BMW NA Customer Service (800)831-1117, you can request a new copy of the Owners manual and Service Booklets whcih they send out free to you as the new owner. I have seen the leatherette cases on Ebay and in one of the BMW aftermarket catolog web sites. Just look around and you should find one of these.
Any BMW Center can run a service history on the car using the VIN for you. This will indicate what has been done on the car, when and which BMW dealer performed the work under warranty.(although the dealer is only identified by number not name).
Also check the VIN through Carfax to make sure the title comes up clean before you buy it.
good luck,
john
