Some thoughts on 6-speed conversion... (archive)

My brain is working overtime, thinking about all the things I'd like to do to my car. Good think my fiancee doesn't read this board...

Anyway, here are some thoughts on what it might take to do a 6-speed conversion:

Parts:
- Transmission (A used one from 840/540? A new one is out of the question for my wallet at least).
- Flywheel
- Clutch assembly
- Clutch actuator/linkage/hydraulic lines (I assume it has a hydraulic clutch)
- Pedal assembly + plus mounting bracket
- Shifter/linkage/bracket
- Cross member/tranny mounts (?)
- Console trim surround and shifter boot (the "wood" piece in the center console where the shifter is)
- Drive shaft/yoke (?)
- What else?

Personally I'd like to combine that conversion with a 3.15 rear end. I feel pretty sure most of the needed conversion parts are available from Europe, either new or used, since the E38 can be had with a manual there.

Any thoughts?

Big-T
