The first piece of advice i'll give you is to call BMW NA and have them send you the owners manual for free.

1. Hold buttons 1&3 until the light goes out to erase the old programming. Next place your remote up to the panel with the tranmitter antenna end closest to it (should be identifiable from a small hole at that end, while holding the button you wish to program, press in the button on your remote and hold. Wait until the light in the panel blinks slow then fast then goes out. It should be programmed in at this point. My door operner needed to have the lean button pressed on it as well, so check to make sure to check this as well. Once it is pressed on the door opener, then press and hold your newly programmed button, it should work now.

2.I believe that the 98 has this, my owners manual states that you should either close the sunroof whne arming the alarm, or disarm the motion feature. I don;t know those steps by heart.

3. once the seat is where you wnat it, press the M button and then the seat memory button 1-3. It will store the location you are in.

4. Hold the key against the end stop in the drivers door to lock the doors and sequentially close all of the windows and sunroof.

Another tip, go to BMW AG web site and register for the drivercircle, once in there, you can locate an on line owners manual as well.
