Yes, there is an interior motion detector on 98's. It is always active when the alarm is set unless you turn it off on a per-use basis. I do not remember the button sequence to deactivate it, but I think you just press "lock" a second time within a couple of seconds. If the alarm does not activate when you place your arm in the car, the detector has been deactivated somehow, or is simply not functioning properly (it is in the headliner directly behind the sunroof, looks like a dome light with a fabric lens.)

As for rolling up windows and closing sunroof, the previous post is correct. This can be done only from the keylock. You can roll the windows down and open the sunroof with the remote. Hold the "unlock" button on the remote until the windows/sunroof are open.

Just became the owner of a '98 740i black/black w/40,00 mi.
Owners manual had to be ordered so I have a couple of questions to get some items programmed.

1) How do I program the home-link system to my current garage door opener?

2) Does this car have motion detector in interior when car alarm is set? When I lock car with windows open, reach in, nothing happens?

3)How do you set memory settings for drivers seat? Steps please.

4) Using key system, isn't there a way to roll up windows and sunroof? Push buttons in a certain order??

I'm sure I'll have other things that will pop up here as I go over car. I really appreciate this boards sharing of information.
