I'm considering purchasing a 2001 740i sport in April or May, and I have several questions about the phone system. My guess is that it will have the CPT 8000.
1) Can you dial stored numbers with voice commands?
2) With which carriers can you use the phone, e.g. AT&T or Sprint?
3) Will the Nav system display caller ID or messages waiting?

Phone system is obsolete. Has voice command- but nav screen does not tell you when messages are waiting, you can not toggle between call waiting calls hands free, and it is very hard to dial any numbers with the nav screen telephone system. I have one and am not happy with it at all.
