What happens after the Nikasil Warranty? (730i) UK (archive)

I am deciding whether to buy one of the first 'new'E38 shape BMW730i V8s. It's a beautiful well kept car with 99,000 miles on the clock, with full BMW history and is a very late 1994 model. The car runs and tick's over perfectly and all seems fine, but I don't think it has had the engine replaced (Nikasil problem). It is now out of warranty and I am worried about the potential costs, as the car is already slightly highly priced at £10,900 and at the top of my budget.

I am buying from a reputable garage and will try to get it done before buying. If I cannot, but still decide to go ahead, what sort of costs are involved? do BMW UK help in anyway??

Also, what is the 'real' average consumption of these, with a reasonable amount of town driving and the occasional long runs?

Any feedback most appreciated.
