I happen not to care too much for the two scoop trim under the new 7's lights especially on a black car but I wouldn't ever imagine that someone who buys one of these bimmers or converts it like Rob is doing, does so out of poor taste. Most of us are pioneers and adventurers trying out new stuff on our cars. Less than eight months ago the word on this board was that you couldn't upgrade to the clear tail lights if you had a pre 98 E38 but almost everyone here has them or is planning to buy them.

Lets all just check it out and see what we want to do with Rob's bold step. After all most of our bimmers here are halfway there anyway with new tail lights and old headlight but that's not bad at all.

Guys, look at the pics. Of course you can do it, but it'll look weird. Why do it halfway? I know - it'll be cheaper, but I don't think it's worth it to do it cheaper if it looks only halfway there.

My two cents.

My interest in this is reignited - I'll do the job myself, if I can find the parts reasonably priced. IMHO this conversion can be done for perhaps a little over a grand, depending on parts availability and pricing.

Rob.. thanks for the update --like alex.. i'd been starring at your website all day. Pls. advise if we can retain the front markers and just upgrade the headlights. Thanks. D
