I don't know, but in the case of the nikasil block, the dealer requires "excessively rough idle" as a sign of trouble. Nonetheless, my 95' was running smooth and strong when it failed the leak-down test. I'm sorry I can't add much to the alusil engine issue - it was my understanding that these engines are not causing problems. One idea might be to just pay for a leak-down test and look at the results. If there is significant variation in the results among cylinders, it's worth checking into more.
NOt sure if that's helpful. GOod luck though.

My engine only shakes (perhaps misfires?) occasionally. If it were something as drastic as a block, would it do it all of the time? Come on guys, I was hoping for an oxygen sensor or something cheap!
