DISCOLORED CHROME TRIM - ANY IDEAS AS TO WHY? (archive)

the chrome above the rear window has a large area that appears 'discolored'. the area is smooth to the touch. (as if a water might have gotten onto book-page - leaving a rainbow=type of discoloration- obviously i don't know what caused this but i'm just using an 'example' since there no way for the Board to see this blemish.)
has anyone experienced this and what did you do - might chrome-trims be covered under the car's warranty?
