97 740i Gear Change/High Rev Problems (archive)

All,

Can anyone help, I've got a '97 740i with a steptronic gearbox.

Whilst driving along in, if I floor the car, it drops down a gear and rev's highly (as it should), however after this initial acceleration the engines starts to lose power and then once stopped the idle is very rough, however the problem is fixed by turning the ignition off and on. No smoke is visble at any time and the car runs fine at high speeds.

I've also noticed that if I start off in Sports mode, and put my foot down in 1st the car stays in 1st until I ease off the accelerator, I take it that's not normal?

Can any one advise on things to check? As I'm a little concerned.
