I have chased problems like this on my 5 series and haven't had this on my 7. Thank God.
From my experience with the 5, these are hard problems to solve. They are probably interrelated with the different control modules. I consider myself a fairly good electrical problem solver and this eluded me for a long time. I sold the 5 with the problems included. I would suggest, unless you are an electrical engineer with a lot of test equipment, this is best solved by a expert mechanic. It may cost $$$, but if they solve it you will have a lot more hair on your head. I am a DIY to the max. But I would not touch this one.

'97 740iL

Anyone on the group any suggestions on the following couple of probs I'm having with my 97 740I.

When cruise is engaged, the car without warning will surge forward under acceleration then just as quickly decelerate. It may do this a couple of times in succession and then the cruise control will disengage itself, for safety reasons I guess. At other times the cruise works just perfectly.

When locking the car with the remote and thereby setting the alarm. The car used to make the "chirping" noise. All on its own it stopped doing it when the alarm was set or turned off.

The alarm has also started going off without warning, all the windows and the moonroof are fully closed. The turn signals and lights flash but there is no horn, the horn works OK though. If I press the "panic" button on the remote again the lights will flash but there is no horn.

Is there anything that I should check, fuses, ECU's wiring connectors etc that may be causing this. I've only just got the car and I don't have a shop manual yet.

thanks in advance.

P
