I bought my 98 740il from a non-bmw dealer last year. As part of the price negotiation, he added an after market warranty by SmartChoice 2000. My price was about $1800. I called the BMW dealer in Houston, and they said it was OK - not the best by any means. I later discovered that I could have purchased the warranty direct for about $2,100. Overall, I was disappointed the first two times I took my car in for service. I paid the $100 deductible and they disallowed things like a radiator, washer pump, and power steering hoses. Recently, I had a little problem with my car, so I made sure that the Service Advisor read every item they covered and checked whether it needed replacement (thinking its about time they pay) - thus comes the $4500 bill which they paid $3700 of. So yes, I got my money's worth big time and have an extra 25K / 2 years to go.

Hope this helps.

I'm in the market for a 750 --I've been posting for a few weeks now-- and one of the things that I'm looking to do is purchase an aftermarket warranty for what I buy. So a couple questions:

Did you buy the car used, then purchased the Warranty? Or did you buy the extended warranty as part of a new car purchase?

If you were to rate your statisfaction with the Warranty company, what would it be? Do you feel you got your monies worth?

Thanks, Dale

I just had the stealer do a bunch of warranty work items. He did tell me that the front rotors need to be changed as well as the pads (not covered). Total cost for the front brakes and rotors was $532 and the alignment was $125. After market warranty (smartchoice 2000) covered $3700 out of a total bill of $4500. I am not mechanically savvy, but there was white smoke coming out of the exhaust on two occasions as well as some burnt pixels in the cluster. If anybody is intereted in the stealer prices (parts and labor), I can scan the invoices with the description and post them. Let me know.
