My car is in need of new tires and I'm looking for some input.

My tire size is 255/45/18 on 18" x 8.5" wheels. I've been told by someone at tirerack.com that Michelin Pilot Sports are the way to go, but their own comparison shows the Bridgestone Potenza S-02 Pole Positions rated higher.

I've seen a few posts by some of you talking up the Michelin's. Is this the way to go? I want the best all-around tire, including best quality -- especially for trueness, etc. to get a good balance with minimal weights.

Thanks as always for everyones input.

Kevin,

Don't know if it is of any help, but...

I run 235/50/18 front rims and 255/45/18 rear rims, standard M37 parallel mags.

When I got the car it had Dunlop Sport SP 9000 255/45/18 all round, and boy was it noisy. The front tyres (tires) were rooted (they delaminated, tread to casing) so I got two new Yokohama AVS Sport 235/50/18 and they are bloody good. Can't really comment on performance as yet (plus I only have a 1995 730i, no real grunter), but they are quieter, much smoother and the car steering and feel is more balanced.

As I've said before, the car is a limousine not a sports car and "my" personal opinion is focused on noise, comfort and balanced with safety.

At NZ$ 750 each US$ 300 I hope they last a wee while.

Over to you.

See ya - Chris
