I spent over $1000 in buying new joints, bilstein shocks and labor costs for my rear suspension because of the same problem.

Finally, the heart of the problem is the rear rubber strut mount and the things is they cost so cheap ($35/each) that it makes you feel stupid for spending lot's of money on other "still in good working condition" suspension parts. Just have both rear strut mounts replaced, you're all set. They can be purchased at BMW dealers.

Since then, my ride is as quiet as heaven.
