Probably the same way, he just charged 50 bucks ;-)
Basically it tells me the shop is full of crap if that is the case.

I had to do this yesterday in fact in my e32, I can't imagine an e38 being any different. Insert the key into either the driver door or passenger door, lift up the handle and hold it up, now turn the key in the direction (toward the front of car) and the lock stem will pop up. For some reason my driver door stem went up but the door was still locked. I got in via the passenger door. You can also get into the trunk with a dead battery too.

How'd the locksmith get in?

I know this sounds silly, at least, I can't imagine BMW would have done this. I brought my car into a shop friday. To make a long story short, I got a phone call that said the tow truck driver had locked the doors, and the doors will NOT unlock on the 750 unless there is juice in the battery. The auto shop had to call a locksmith and want to pass the cost on to me. Never mind that they didn't call first.
Regardless, I can't imagine that the car would NOT have a manual override with the key? Are they pulling my chain?
Does anyone know? If you can e-mail the response as well that would be great as I want to know ASAP so I can approach them tomorrow if needed.
