I recently installed the standard BMW CD changer into my 98 740iL with stock sound. It is actually very easy. You will probably have more trouble getting the trim pieces off the inside of the trunk than actually putting in the CD changer. Make sure that you remove the lock screws and pin from the CD changer body (they are metallic orange/red) before installing the CD changer. Also, there are four suspension screws that need to be moved from the standard position, which indicates a horizontal installation, to their position 90 degrees around. The screws will have some embossed diagramming indicating that they can be rotated about an axis on the CD changer body. These screws can be found on the sides of the changer next to slots that will accept a flat head screwdriver. After removing the suspension screws, use the flathead screwdriver to rotate the slot 90 degrees until a metal plate with a screw hole in it that is rotated by the flat head screw driver's motion mates with a hole in the CD changer body. Then re-insert the suspension screws and tighten. This sounds complex, but is really not. Once you are done with the CD changer, remove the trim pieces from your trunk that hide the CD changer installation location. It is secured by plastic screws that can be removed easily. Just make sure that you get a hold of the plastic nuts the screws screw into behind the trim to hold it in place. Once this is done, you will have clear access to the 14 pin connector and the power connector. Simply attach the wires, and screw the CD changer into the bronze colored mounting bracket. The only thing I could not figure out at the end was how to put the plastic screws back into the plastic nuts while holding the nuts behind the trunk trim piece. Without the CD changer being present, this was easy, as I had access with my hands. But once the changer was in, I could not hold the nuts in place as I screwed in the screws. I settled for just putting in the screws and things seem to be holding up well. The sound is great!! Let me know if you have any more questions or if I have thoroughly confused you.
