this happened to my '96 750iL a year ago (65k miles). it turned out to be an $1800 emissions issue. i had the work done at an independent that i trust.

According to my owners manual, if the check engine light indicator lights up, this indicates a fault in the emissions-related electronic systems.

Has anybody dealt with this before? Is it a quick and easy fix for the dealer?
